Meta is expanding its data center campus in Eagle Mountain, Utah, outside Salt Lake City. The company has not disclosed the size or schedule of the new buildings, but said the expansion will use closed-loop liquid cooling systems combined with dry cooling.
Meta said the investment will bring its total spending in Utah to more than $3 billion. Construction is expected to employ more than 1,200 workers at peak, while the completed data center is expected to support more than 300 jobs.
The Eagle Mountain campus began with a $750 million, roughly 1-million-square-foot development announced in 2018 and became operational in 2021. Meta has since announced several additional expansions, including buildings totaling about 2 million square feet in 2022.
The project is part of Meta's broader effort to expand self-built computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence workloads. The cooling design reflects the industry's increasing focus on managing higher rack densities while limiting water consumption.
