Google Cloud announced the availability of Filestore agent volumes for customers running non-production workloads. The feature is intended to provide managed storage for AI-agent workspaces that need to persist files, tools and session state across sandbox executions.

Google said agent workloads create storage requirements that differ from conventional applications. Sessions may need isolated workspaces, rapid resumption, elastic capacity and pay-per-use economics without requiring teams to pre-allocate disks or operate file systems themselves.

Filestore agent volumes are designed to address those requirements through managed file storage integrated with agent execution environments. The company highlighted use cases such as build tools, data analysis and collaborative research, where agents need to create or manipulate data during a session.

The launch expands Google Cloud's infrastructure offerings around autonomous agents beyond compute and orchestration. It also shows providers competing to supply the state, storage and isolation layers needed by organizations operating large numbers of agent sessions.

Google described the current availability as suitable for non-production use, so the feature is not yet positioned as a full production storage service for critical workloads.
